Sports Concussion, sports medicine, general musculoskeletal care and non-operative orthopedics, high School & collegiate athletics, recreational & competitive sports, performance sports (gymnastics, dance, cheer)

Clinical Services:

Diagnosis and non-operative care for musculoskeletal & sports injuries
Care of sports-related & general medical needs of athletes
Pre-participation physical examination
Special Populations: Youth, adult, elderly, and disabled athletes
Counseling regarding: Steroid/supplement abuse, eating disorders in athletes, injury prevention
Coordination of care with other members of the sports medicine team, including athletic trainers, physical therapists, personal physicians, and other members of the medical & surgical specialties.

Background:
Dr. Kruse received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley. He later attended medical school at the University of California, San Diego and did his internship and residency in family medicine at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. Following residency, Dr. Kruse completed fellowship training in sports medicine at Memorial Hospital of South Bend, affiliated with the University of Notre Dame.

Dr. Kruse is an assistant professor of Orthopaedic Surgery & Family Medicine. He serves as the Director of Primary Care Sports Medicine at UC Irvine and assumed the role of Medical Director for UC Irvine's Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center on January 1, 2010.

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at UC Irvine announces the opening of our new state-of-the-art Orthopaedic Specialty Inpatient Unit. In partnership with our dedicated orthopaedic nursing, the OSIU runs as a specialty orthopaedic hospital within the new Douglas Hospital.

Dr. Ranjan Gupta recently served as an Instructor for the Comprehensive Review Course in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery in Chicago this July 15-17, 2011. He provided information to practicing hand surgeons about nerve injuries and their reconstruction as they prepared to take their certifying examinations. In addition, he taught at the AAOS/ASES Advanced Surgical Management of Complex Shoulder Instability at the Orthopaedic Learning Center in Rosemont, Illinois July 22-22, 2011 along with other shoulder experts. He demonstrated new surgical techniques to practicing orthopaedic surgeons as they learned to explore evolving treatment options for complex shoulder instability.
